Why bring your invitation on your wedding day?

The more weddings I shoot, the more I realize that each bride has that 1 thing that they really care about on their wedding day. I cared about my dress, because I had this image in my head of how I wanted my lake side wedding to look and feel, and it was top priority to me that my dress was comfortable and flowy to make the vibes of the lake! Some brides spend big bucks on flowers. Others spend tons on stationary. I love photographing every part of the day, but one thing I love to spend extra time on is styling the invitation suite! If you are a bride that didn’t splurge and spend a lot on your invitations, I STILL want to photograph them…and here’s why!

Even if you're the bride that falls in the category of not really caring about your invitations and you just threw some together just to get out to guests, I still need it on your wedding day! If I’m not your wedding photographer, then I will speak for your wedding photographer and say they should need it to!!!! It may seem like a small detail that doesn’t matter, but the invitation usually plays a huge roll in the whole style of your bridal details! Its extra special if you have put a lot of time and effort into creating your invitations and have neutral colors and have beautiful script or serif fonts to compliment it! I have shown up on many wedding days and have had brides say “Oh I forgot it and it’s not really that important it”….and that’s why I want to share why I think it is!

I don’t necessarily need your invitation because I just want to take a picture to document what it looked like, I need it because it is the perfect element that connects all of your other detail shots like your earrings and rings together! When you use a similar element in most of your detail shots, the images pair together so much better in an album! Normally I use my brides invitation for the large invitation suite shot with a few other details like maybe the rings, or earrings….then I love breaking down and shooting the small details closer in the same setting! Having your invitation as the perfect background to these shots really brings more character to your day in such a personalized way instead of me just using a plain background for the details. I’m going to share some examples below of what I mean so you can see how it all flows together just by simply having the invitation! If you are an upcoming bride….make sure you give an extra copy of your invitation to your mom, or mother in law just in case you do forget yours :)
